Lawyers’ Commitment with the Community

ProBono Público (generally abbreviated as “pro bono”) is a Latin expression that means “for the public welfare”. It is the rendering of legal services, voluntarily and free of charge, provided to persons of limited resources, high risk sectors or groups, NGOs and groups or organizations promoting causes of collective public interest.

It is a personal and professional commitment of lawyers aimed at making a contribution to society through volunteer legal services.

“FUNDACION PRO BONO”

Fundación Pro Bono is a non-profit organization that intends to facilitate and organize the Pro Bono practice of lawyers and law firms.

Fundación Pro Bono, created in year 2000, has implemented several programs to offer pro bono opportunities to attorneys. The Foundation has organized the work of attorneys through thematic networks which, through corporate advice, legal assistance, legal reports, judicial representation, training and participation in causes of high public connotation, seek to contribute through volunteer legal services to improve access to justice in Chile.

In order to identify those situations worth of pro bono intervention, the Foundation has entered into strategic alliances with public and private entities and promotes this good practice among the relevant actors of the profession.
